Trail of Tears Symposium Here
A symposium on the 1838 Benge Route of the Trail of Tears through this area will be held Saturday, March 29, downstairs in the Old Courthouse Meeting Room in downtown Pocahontas. The program will begin at 9:30 am and end with a tour of the Benge Party’s Route through Randolph County beginning at 3 pm. Speakers’ expert on the subject as well as guests from all over Arkansas and Missouri will be in attendance.
The Benge Party of displaced Cherokee and Creek Indians entered Arkansas in Randolph County in December, 1838, 176 years ago. The party forded four of the county’s five rivers in bitterly cold conditions. The Symposium’s speakers have spent years researching their subject and have many interesting stories to tell of the event.
Attendance is free and attendees may attend all or any part of the event. The Symposium is sponsored by Five Rivers Historic Preservation, Inc. and the Arkansas Trail of Tears Association.
I missed the March 29th symposium on the 1838 Benge Route of the Trail of Tears. Are there
any futures plans for others? How can I find out more about when and where?
Sincerely,
Daryl Dabbs
Daryl, The gentlemen that is in charge of that event is actually on vacation for a couple of weeks. I will email your question to him and let him respond to you when he returns.
Wendy,
Please let me know when anymore Trail of Tears events happen.
Thanks,
