What does your business provide to its customers?
Heritage & cultural center, classroom, recreation, education, community fellowship, friendliness, and love.
What are some features that make your business unique?
The center preserves and displays a portion of African American history in a former African American church & school that was built in 1919. It was restored in 2000 to the Eddie Mae Herron Center.
Give us a brief history of your business:
This building was once a segregated one room school until 1965.Now it is a historical museum/center that is on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum/center is open to all. Each year there are community activities such as Black History Month, hog butchering demonstration, Dr. Martin Luther King, JR. Celebration, Juneteenth BBQ celebrating emancipation.
What do you see for the future of your business?
Hopefully the next generation will continue to preserve the history and keep the center going so the community will continue to be peaceful and grow with the love seed that it started with.
The Eddie Mae Herron Center is a 501c3 Not For Profit organization. We want to thank all that support our fundraisers that help our museum/center a flow.
